Microsoft Copilot Update
AI has all the headlines at the moment and we want to give you an update as Synergy Technical currently understands it. Microsoft and OpenAI's partnership has created era-defining buzz and We're confident you’re getting questions internally on how you’ll address it. Synergy Technical has been staying hip-to-hip with product managers at Microsoft to understand the current state of what they will roll out as ‘Copilot’ in the near future. In its current phase, Copilot is a paid preview in 600 tenants for gathering feedback and making updates. Documentation is not created yet but we can share our current understanding of Copilot and keep you updated on how this will impact your business.
What we do know:
- Your data will not leave your tenant
- Copilot will have real-time access to both content and context in the Microsoft Graph
- Copilot inherits your security, compliance and privacy policies set up in Microsoft 365
- The Semantic Index will use the last 24,999 words by the user in its model for recommending suggestions
- ‘Grounding’ is the term for the tools capability to learn as it scans the environment
- Microsoft 365 E3/E5 will be required (or equivalent Microsoft 365 Business Standard/Business Premium for small biz)
- It will be crucial to understand your data estate and leverage tools like Microsoft Purview to control access to data
- Data sitting outside the Microsoft 365 landscape will not be part of the Grounding engine
- SharePoint On-Prem, File Shares, third-party data lakes/warehouses, etc will not be ingested. If you’d want them to be readable for a more productive experience, a migration in to the Microsoft landscape will be necessary
Synergy Technical is working with Microsoft Product Managers to deeply understand the Modern Workplace Copilot toolset. We intend to leverage our certified engineers to offer Readiness Engagement’s validated by Microsoft Engineers that will interview your stakeholders on the business use case for AI within your organization, define the roadmap for security and compliance controls necessary to achieve that result, and work with the IT admins to build end-user communications and trainings to ease the adoption of this groundbreaking technology.
This will be a game-changer in terms of productivity – and it will also create a necessary data estate, security and privacy review exercise. We will make sure to keep you in the loop as announcements are made public but please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions on how we can help your team. We have plenty more content including videos we can show of the tool in action.
